              Athi Varadhar
     Athi Varadhar is the original deity of  Kanchi Varadharaja Perumal Temple. Devaraja Perumal is the deity now as Varadharaja Perumal was brouht from old seevaram.  The height of Athi Varadhar is 9 feet tall.

       There are plenty of stories being told about Athi Varadhar being immersed in the water. One is to keep Athi Varadhar cool because of the heat during yagna, other is during the period of Mughal rule to protect from being destroyed.
       Athi Varadhar will be on sleeping position for 24 days and in a standing position for the other 24 days of the 48 days where the Athi Varadhar will be out of the water.
